Growing Careers Through Apprenticeships

This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating some of our Chemring apprentices, who are working towards different levels of apprenticeship, and sharing their experiences of an apprenticeship and what it has offered them.

Meet Lindsay, HR Assistant at Chemring Countermeasures UK (CCM UK), who is currently working towards a Level 3 Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) apprenticeship.

“I work in HR and support the HR Director, updating polices, organising events, and supporting line managers and production workers. I’ve been in this role for just over a year and a half and this is my first apprenticeship. I’m working towards a Level 3 CIPD apprenticeship.

“I was initially asked to complete the course as part of my new role as a HR Assistant. I like learning new things, so I was happy to do the course. In fact, I’ve got so much out of it that I’m going to go on to a Level 5 CIPD course in September of this year.

“I started with Chemring in the Production department and wanted to stay on, so I applied for a job in HR. My husband was in the Army, and he has aways talked about the products that Chemring makes and how they save lives, which gave me another motivation to work here.

“I’ve found the most enjoyable part of the apprenticeship is learning new skills and being able to step up more in my job role. The apprenticeship has given me a great opportunity to be able to work and learn at the same time.

“If you’re looking to do an apprenticeship, my advice is don’t think about it – just do it!”
