Chemring recognised for outstanding industrial security by the U.S. Government

Chemring Sensors and Electronic Systems (CSES) in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been awarded a Cogswell Award for their exceptional security program.

The Cogswell Award is the most prestigious honour the U.S. Defense Counterintelligence & Security Agency (DCSA) can bestow to a cleared defense contractor. It was established in 1966 in honour of the late Air Force Colonel, James S. Cogswell, the first chief of the United Office of Industrial Security.

Of the nearly 13,000 cleared U.S. defense contractors, like CSES, in the National Industrial Security Program (NISP), only the top 0.5% are selected to receive a Cogswell Award.

With this award, CSES is recognised for establishing and maintaining a security program that exceeds the NISP requirements demonstrates a commitment to excellence and sets a high standard for other organisations to follow.

During the nomination process, CSES has undergone an internal review with the DCSA national review team. During this review, they were assessed on the following criteria:

  • Overall security program
  • Senior management support
  • Security vulnerability assessments
  • Security education and awareness
  • Facility security officer and security staff level of experience
  • Classified materials controls

Amish Mehta, President of CSES, said, “It is an honour to receive a Cogswell Award in recognition of our exceptional security program in support of our customers. Achieving this distinction requires a total team effort and is a testament to the hard work of our security team and our organisation-wide commitment to excellence in security. The safety and security of our people and our customers’ technical advantage and data is our top priority.”
